I've been accompanying a multi-disciplinary team of teachers from a Micro Lycée in their Professional Practice Analysis (PPA) program for several years now. Naturally, I was faced with the demands of an institution supporting this program and the question as to how to measure its effects arose. How can we evaluate a training program that focuses on subjectivity and the singularity of a story told by a subject with its ineffable aspect? How can we obtain usable data from this friction between a subjective source and a work of objectification in the analysis and problematization of real-life professional situations? What is the place of the non-assessable dimension? Defining the issues at stake in the PPA implemented at the Micro Lycée and measuring its effects on the development of professionalism and the relationship to the profession are the two main areas of study in this text, which attempts to highlight the clinical dimension of this experience of speech and its individual and collective consequences.

We focus on the olfactory design project, in a discipline that is rarely taught and even less frequently studied. The olfactory design project involves subjectivity at various levels. As a teaching–learning situation, there is transferential effects, and as a pedagogical form, it is based on an artifact whose production and final outcome originate from the learner, in relation to their peers and their teacher. We present the case of a project-based approach to teaching olfactory design, examined from a psychoanalytic perspective. We draw on the concept of the already-there (Combis-Carnus, 2001), which accounts for more or less conscious elements at work through which didactic action is conceived. Furthermore, we use the L schema (Lacan, 1966/1970), which makes it possible to account for the teacher’s position in relation to the learner’s internal psychic dynamics, in which knowledge is constructed at the intersection of the unconscious axis and the imaginary relation axis. These two concepts shed light on the teaching-learning act in olfactory design, whose olfactory and creative dimensions are themselves also largely connected to the unconscious.
