      <title>Poétique de l’histoire populaire</title>
      <link>https://www.ouvroir.fr/rhs/index.php?id=189</link>
People’s history does not correspond to a unified historiography, but here we are interested in a unique way of writing history, which the Anglo-Saxons call “history from below.” Far removed from any statistical approach, this form of history performs scientificity by working with unique and often fragmentary archives, which shed light on one another through processes of “assembly”. These archives do not make sense against the backdrop of a preexisting context but constitute it through a series of inductive operations. While shifting its focus away from the dominant narrative – particularly the one that recounts the construction of the state and the advances of progress –people’s history nonetheless makes use of the archives of the powerful. But it does so with detachment and, at times, irreverence. It nevertheless pays particular attention to sources that bear witness to the actions and voices of marginalized individuals. </description>
