      <link>https://www.ouvroir.fr/rhs/index.php?id=237</link>
The glorification of the people in socialist and republican cultures has led to a wide range of interpretations of the term amongst communist activists in the interwar period. While it is associated with the sphere of rights and elections, it also solemnly refers to the sovereignty achieved in republican revolutions, before becoming the key term of the Popular Front, uniting radicals, socialists, and communists in the name of the unity of the French nation in 1935. What to make of this rhetoric and notion of the people when, in 1936, widespread participation in struggle (through strikes, occupations, trade unionism) redefined the boundaries of the working class’ world? </description>
