Dans le Rhin supérieur comme ailleurs, la transmission de ce savoir-faire s’opérait largement par voie orale, avant la généralisation et la mise en œuvre de la diffusion plus massive de l’écrit. Cependant, les savoirs minéralogiques, dès les premiers siècles du Moyen Âge, se sont structurés autour des encyclopédistes, recopiés dans les scriptoriums puis imprimés dans les ateliers urbains. L’apparition de l’imprimerie a notamment permis la diffusion de savoirs et techniques liés à l’art des mines. Les pôles urbains du Rhin supérieur ont joué un rôle majeur dans la propagation de ces savoirs et savoir-faire. The exploitation of polymetallic mines requires specific technical skills. In the Upper Rhine as elsewhere, the transmission of this know-how took place largely orally, before the generalization and implementation of the more massive dissemination of writing. However, mineralogical knowledge, from the first centuries of the Middle Ages, was structured around encyclopaedists, copied in scriptoriums, and then printed in urban workshops. The appearance of the printing press notably allowed the dissemination of knowledge and techniques related to the art of mining. The urban centres of the Upper Rhine have played a major role in the spread of this knowledge and know-how. Die Ausbeutung polymetallischer Minen erfordert besondere technische Fähigkeiten. Die Weitergabe dieses Know-hows erfolgte am Oberrhein wie anderswo weitgehend mündlich, vor der Verallgemeinerung und Umsetzung der massiveren Verbreitung der Schrift. Allerdings wurde das mineralogische Wissen aus den ersten Jahrhunderten des Mittelalters um Enzyklopädisten herum strukturiert, in Skriptorien kopiert und dann in städtischen Werkstätten gedruckt. Das Erscheinen der Druckerpresse ermöglichte insbesondere die Verbreitung von Kenntnissen und Techniken im Zusammenhang mit der Bergbaukunst.
