Dans les deux cas, des systèmes productifs sectoriels ou régionaux sont construits, des firmes-pivots affirment leur mission d’animation d’un réseau de sociétés, des processus de financement sont imaginés. This paper proposes a bold comparison between the launch of an economic mobilization (industrial, logistics, financial) in the fall of 1914 to repel the German offensive and the establishment of an organized economy in the spring of 2020 to hinder the progression of the Covid-19. La firme nord-américaine avait inscrit dans sa stratégie un essaimage d’usines de biens d’équipement et de pièces au sein de son système productif européen, en sus des usines de moteurs et de montage. Le recarénage de l’établissement au fil des innovations et le renouvellement générationnel de la main-d’œuvre ont procuré un sentiment de pérennité. Or, la restructuration de l’appareil productif de Ford au xxie siècle a conduit à une remise en cause de cette usine : au plan de repli industriel s’ajoutent dès lors des plans d’accompagnement social et de revitalisation du site, dans un environnement industriel aquitain faible dans le secteur de la mécanique automobile car fort dans celui des équipements aéronautiques. The fate of the Ford plant in Blanquefort (Gironde) was sealed in 2018-2019, after a big third of a century of history. The North American company had included in its strategy a spin-off of equipment and parts factories within its European production system, in addition to engine and assembly plants. Refreshing the institution through innovation and generational workforce renewal had provided a sense of sustainability.
